‘Bhoomi’ explores the effects of climate change in different ecosystems and is depicted through fiber and textile sculptural works. The installation portrays our past and current realities using three fundamental concepts: social change, upcycling, and craftsmanship.

It is the culmination of rigorous research, trial and error, and sharing of lived experiences. The sculptures and small elements are made of different scrap materials like fabrics, paper, plastic, and metal. Every small scrap collected locally from tailors and households are manually sorted by colour and size. Even pervasive and ubiquitous materials like plastic bags are handspun into yarn, giving new life to waste.

By combining these materials with techniques such as crochet, knitting, weaving, embroidery, felting and punch needle, the individual small sculptures are carefully crafted with intricate details to form a whole.

During the artistic process, the collective insights of the team, with different approaches, methodology, and perspectives are crucial to creating impactful art. The exhibition builds on naturalist and anthropological subjects to encompass global themes and bring awareness to the issue of climate change.

'Bhoomi' was exhibited in Chennai, India and the feedback from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. The visitors attested that the exhibition managed to convey the urgency of the climate crisis in a visually stunning and emotionally resonant way. It allowed them to realize the gravity of the situation without feeling weighed down by hopelessness. In a world where the climate crisis looms large, it is heartening to know that art can play a vital role in shaping our collective response and a reminder that we can confront it with both urgency and optimism, and that, perhaps, is the path to a sustainable future.

Attached is a video showcasing the exhibition's creation process, providing a comprehensive journey through the diverse techniques and processes, including waste materials, utilized in crafting these multimedia sculptures.
