Medium: Fabric patchwork, embroidery, mixed media

Bhoomi is the culmination of rigorous research, trial and error, and sharing of lived experiences. The sculptures and small elements are made of different scrap materials like fabrics, paper, plastic, and metal. Every small scrap collected locally from tailors and households are manually sorted by colour and size. Even pervasive and ubiquitous materials like plastic bags are handspun into yarn, giving new life to waste.

By combining these materials with techniques such as crochet, knitting, weaving, embroidery, felting and punch needle, the individual small sculptures are carefully crafted with intricate details to form a whole.

It is currently on view at the Agastya International Foundation in Kuppam, Karnataka, where it is experienced by many children each day, inspiring curiosity, sparking questions, and opening up fresh perspectives in their young minds.
